Caryn Elaine Johnson, born November 13, 1955 is a famous American comedian writer, actor and TV host. She was presented with the Mark Twain Prize in American Humor in 2001. Goldberg started her stage career with the one-woman show Spook Show. The show was renamed into Broadway under the name Whoopi Goldberg and ran from 1984 to. She won the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album for the production of the show. Her most memorable film role was in 1985, when she played Celie as a woman who is mistreated in the Deep South in Steven Spielberg’s period drama film The Color Purple. She won the Golden Globe Award as Best Actress in Motion Picture Drama.
