American entrepreneur Jordan Ross Belfort (/’belf@rt/ was born on 9 July in 1962) and is a speaker as well as author, stockbroker, financial criminal, and former stockbroker. He pleaded guilty in 1999 to fraud and related charges. These crimes were connected with manipulation of stocks, the running of a boiler-room in a pennystock scam and other stock-market manipulation. Belfort was sentenced to prison for 22 months as part of an agreement where he testified against many of his subordinates and partners. He claims in interviews and in his memoirs that the venture was initially a success. He then grew his meat-selling enterprise to hire a number of employees and sold 5,000 pounds (2,300 kilograms) of fish and beef each week. Stratton Oakmont was a boiler room where penny stocks were sold and investors deceived with "pump-and-dump" stocks sales.
