Patti LaBelle

 Patricia Louise Holte (born May 24, 1944)best known as Patti LaBelle, is an American actress, singer, and businesswoman. LaBelle is known as the "Godmother of Soul". She started her career as the frontwoman and lead singer for the vocal group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles in the 1960s. The group's name changed to Labelle in 1970, the single that became the most popular "Lady Marmalade" was released. The result was that after the split in 1976, LaBelle began a successful solo career. This began with her critically acclaimed debut album, featuring the track that would define her career, "You Are My Friend". LaBelle became a popular solo artist in 1984 after the success of the singles "If Only You knew", "Love, Need and You" (later sampled for You" (later used as a sample for 2002's "Dilemma"), "New Attitude" and "Stir It Up". Just two years later, in 1986, LaBelle scored a number-one album called Winner in You and its top duet single "On My Own" along with Michael McDonald.In 1989 the album Be Yourself spawned the standard "If You Asked Me To" (later recorded by Celine Dion). LaBelle was awarded a Grammy for Best Female R&B.
