Tyler Perry (born Emmitt Perry Jr., September 13, 1969) is an American comedian, actor film maker, playwright, and actor. Perry is the author and actor of the Madea character, a tough elderly woman. Perry's films span from traditional filmmaking techniques to live stage productions. Many of his stage play films were later adapted into feature films.Perry wrote and produced several stage plays in the 1990s and into the early 2000s. A number of television shows were created by Perry, including Tyler Perry's House of Payne which ran for eight seasons between 2006 and 2012. Forbes classified Perry as the highest-paid performer, earning an estimated salary of USD130 million between May 2010 & May 2011. Perry entered into an exclusive, multi-year partnership with Oprah Winfrey (OWN) in 2012. Based on Perry's success on scripted television the partnership was created predominantly for OWN.
