In 1967, Taupin responded to an advertisement in New Musical Express by Liberty Records. John responded to the same advertisement, and they have worked on numerous albums together. John and Taupin were both inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame 1992. John was the son of Robert Taupin, and Daphne is the daughter of John Leonard Palchett Poppy Cort and a University of Cambridge-educated classics teacher, and former Rector of Sale, Greater Manchester (then was known as Cheshire).
