Yvonne Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - August 17, 2015) was an American actress who was best known for her performance as Batgirl in the 1960s' telecast series Batman. Other notable roles include the film of Dorothy Johnson in 1963 It Happened At the World's Fair, Azalea Tuchum's film Kissin' Cousins from 1964, and Orion Marta, the green-skinned Orion Marta, in Star Trek's episode "Whom Gods Decay" (1969). After being recognized by Alexandra Danilova (a teacher and ballerina), Craig was invited to join the Ballet Russe de Mont Carlo's youngest corps of ballet. This training was helpful when she performed stunts while performing as Batgirl. In the year 1957, she quit the ballet company "over an issue with casting changes" and moved from New York to pursue her dancing profession. She was cast in one episode of the TV series Perry Mason ("The The Case of the Lazy Lover") alongside Neil Hamilton who played her stepfather. Hamilton later played Batgirl's father, Police Commissioner James Gordon. In the following months, she was featured in three films--The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story as well as Gidget.
