 Shakira Mebarak Ripoll (/S@'kI@r@Sh@-KEER@, Spanish: [(t)Sa'kira]; born on February 2, 1977) is a Colombian singer from Colombia. She was born and raised in Barranquilla She has been often referred to as the "Queen of Latin Music"and is known for her versatility in music. At the age of 13 she made her recording debut at Sony Music Colombia. After the commercial failures of her first two albums, Magia (1991), and Peligro (1993), her popularity in Hispanic countries grew thanks to her following albums Pies Descalzos (1995), and Donde Estan los Ladrones? (1998). She entered the English-language market with her fifth album Laundry Service (2001), which sold over 13 million copies across the globe. Inspired by the global chart-topping success of her hit singles "Whenever, Wherever" as well as "Underneath Your Clothes", the album helped cement her position as a top crossover artist. Broadcast Music, Inc. has described Shakira as a "pioneer" who widened the reach of Latino singers.Her success was further strengthened by her Spanish albums Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1 (2005), Sale el Sol (2010), and El Dorado (2017), all of which topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and were certified diamond (Latin) by the Recording Industry Association of America. In addition, she released she released her English albums Oral Fixation, Vol.
