Phil

The Greek root -phil- originates from the Greek word which means "love". Philosophy, also taken from the Greek root phil- meaning "love", refers to the study of human behavior as well as the significance of life. Philias is among the most popular applications of the root "phil" due to the fact that it is linked to love and obsession with particular objects or topics. The suffix -philia is used to describe the affection or love for something that is more specific. It's a bit antonymous to -phobia. Philias may be of a biological nature (e.g. the rhizophilia trait is a preference to live on roots) or chemical (e.g. chromophilous, materials that are easily stained), or can be a passion or a love (e.g. icthyophilia, love for fish)Philia (TSyKHy) is an Greek word for love refers to brotherly love, which includes the bonds of friendship and affection. This is different from Eros (or romantic or sexual love) and agape (or spiritual, detached love). But, English usage differs in certain instances from the etymological usage and many of these words are referring to English not to brotherly love but to sexual attraction.
