O J Simpson

The People of the State of California v. Orenthal James Simpson was a criminal trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court in which the former National Football League (NFL) broadcaster, actor and player O. J. Simpson was tried, but acquitted of murdering his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The two were stabbed death in the front of Brown's home in the Brentwood neighborhood in Los Angeles on the night of June 12 the 12th of June, 1994. From November 9 1994, when the jury was officially sworn in, the trial lasted eleven months. Opening statements were made on the 24th of January 1995. Simpson was acquitted of murder charges on both counts on October 3 of the same year, despite the overwhelming evidence of forensics against his case. The trial began shortly following the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. It is believed that Simpson was acquitted of murder as well as attempted murder charges. Because of its international publicity this trial has been dubbed the "most widely-publicized" criminal trial ever.
