Nas

Network-attached storage (NAS) is an at-file level, as opposed to block-level, data storage server that is connected to an internet-connected computer network that allows access to data for a diverse client group. The word "NAS" may be used to refer to the technology used or a device that is specifically designed to perform this function. It is typically made as a computer device or a specialized device designed for specific purposes. Appliances that are networked and have at least one or more storage drives are referred to as"NAS" systems. They are usually divided in redundant storage containers that are logical and redundant such as RAID. Network-attached storage allows access to files through network file sharing protocols such as NFS, SMB or AFP. NAS devices have gained popularity in the late 1990s as an option to share files across multiple computers and to assume the responsibility of a file server. NAS devices can offer quicker access to data, easier administration, and easier configuration than servers designed for general use.
