Melissa Marie Benoist (/b@'noIst/ b@-NOYST;born October 4, 1988) is an American actress, performer and producer. Her first big role was Marley Rose on the Fox musical comedy drama Glee (2012-2014), where she was a regular on the show in the fifth season. Her fame grew because of her portrayal of the title character in the CBS / CW superhero show Supergirl (2015-2021), along with other media from the Arrowverse franchise.Benoist's film roles include the psychological thriller Whiplash (2014), the comedy drama Danny Collins (2015), the crime-comedy Band of Robbers (2015), the romantic Western The Longest Ride (2015), the action thriller Patriots Day (2016), the drama Lowriders (2016) as well as the comedy drama Sun Dogs (2017). On the Paramount Network miniseries Waco (2018) she played the wife to the cult leader David Koresh. On Broadway, Benoist was the first to perform as Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical in 2018.
