Marilyn Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, and passed away on August 4, 1962. She was an American actress. Her most famous work is her comedic roles as "blonde bombshells", and was a symbol of the gender revolution in the 1950s. Her films made 200 million dollars, which is equivalent to $2 billion by 2021. She was a star for more than a decade. After her passing, Monroe remains a major celebrity in pop culture. In 1999 she was honored when the American Film Institute ranked her sixth on their list of most influential female screen legends of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Multiple film critics and media outlets have highlighted Monroe as one of the most talented actors to never receive an Academy Award nomination.Born and raised in Los Angeles, Monroe spent much of her youth in foster homes and an orphanage; she was married at the age of sixteen. She was working in a factory during World War II when she was introduced to a photographer who was part of the First Motion Picture Unit and began a successful pin-up modeling career that resulted in film contracts that were short-lived with 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures.
