Lionel Andres Messi (Spanish pronunciation: [ljo'nel an'dres 'mesi] (listen); born on the 24th of June, 1987), is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a forward for Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain and captains the Argentina national team. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest footballers ever. Messi won seven Ballon d'Or Awards as well as the record-breaking six European Golden Shoes and was selected to the Ballon d'Or dream team in 2020. He played his entire professional career at Barcelona before leaving the club in 2021. He won a club record 35 trophies including ten La Liga titles as well as seven Copa del Rey titles. Messi is a prolific goal scorer and creative playmaker. He holds the record for the most goals scored in La Liga (474), the most goals scored in the course of a European league season (50), the most hat-tricks during La Liga (36) and the UEFA Champions League (8). Also, he holds the records of most assists in La Liga (192) and a La Liga season (and Copa America (1). The record holder for the highest number of international goals scored by the a South American man (90). Messi has scored more than 785 career senior goals for both country and club and has the most goals of any player for one club.
