Laura Helene Prepon (born 7 March 1980) is an American actress. She became famous for her character Donna Pinciotti in the Fox sitcom That's 70s Show (1998-2006). Prepon is also famous for her character Alex Vause on the Netflix comedy-drama Orange Is the New Black (2013-19). Prepon's film debut was in 2001, with Southlander which was an independent drama. Other films she has made include the romantic comedy Come Early Morning (2006) and the comedy Lay the Favorite (2012), the thriller The Girl on the Train (2016) and the action drama The Hero (2017).Prepon was born in Watchung, New Jersey. Marjorie (nee Coll), teacher and home cook and Michael Prepon is an orthopaedic surgeon. is Prepon's eldest child. Prepon was just 13 when her father, Michael Prepon, died in heart surgery in 1993. She was a student at Watchung Hills Regional High School and later studied at the Total Theatre Lab in New York City. Her father was Jewish with Russian Jewish descent, and her mother is of Irish Catholic ancestry. Her maternal great-great-great-grandfather was Union Army General Joseph Bradford Carr.
