Jennifer Justine Musk (nee Wilson) was born September 2, 1972. Justine Wilson was raised in Peterborough, Ontario Canada. She spent the majority of her childhood in the city. She earned her degree from Queen's University, Kingston with an honours degree in English literature. Then she moved to Japan where she taught English as an additional language (ESL) before arriving in California.Wilson is the writer of the modern fantasy novel BloodAngel, published in 2005 under the Roc Books imprint of Penguin Books. The sequel Uninvited came out in 2007 and was an independent novel aimed at readers of young age. In 2008, BloodAngel: Lord of Bones was published. Musk was among the first authors to use Pinterest to develop a novel. She has claimed that Musk kept her last name Musk to protect their children. The twins of one of them changed their names in 2022, to reflect her gender identity. She adopted Wilson as her surname since she didn't want her name to be associated anymore with Musk.
