Jonathan Niven Cryer (born April 16th 1965) is an American actor, writer, director and producer. He was born into a showbiz family and made his debut on film in 1984 as a young photographer for No Small Affair. His debut role in Pretty in Pink, written by John Hughes, came in 1986. He was the writer and producer of Went to Coney Island in a Mission from God... Then, be Back by Five in 1998. His breakthrough role came in the John Hughes-written film Pretty in Pink. The other starring films like The Famous Teddy Z, Partners and The Trouble with Normal, ran longer than 22 episodes. He co-starred as Alan Harper in the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. The show was a massive hit over 12 seasons and earned two Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2011, he received a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television. Other film appearances by Ryan include Superman IV, Hiding Out (1987) as well as Hot Shots!
