John Edmund Mulaney, born on August 26, 1982, is an American comedian, actor producer, writer and actor. He first rose to prominence due to his role as a writer on Saturday Night Live from 2008 until 2013, when he contributed to numerous sketches and characters, mainly Stefon the character he as well as Bill Hader co-created; he has returned to host numerous times since leaving. Mulaney is also regarded for his stand-up comedy, with stand-up specials The Top Part (2009), New in Town (2012), The Comeback Kid (2015), as well as Kid Gorgeous (2018), for which he was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for the Variety Special. Mulaney is also known for his Netflix children's musical comedy special John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch (2019).He was the creator and star of the short-lived Fox sitcom Mulaney (2014-2015), a semi-autobiographical series about his life. Mulaney is known for his role as George St. Geegland in the comedic duo with Nick Kroll. Mulaney and Nick Kroll starred on Broadway and television in Oh, Hello on Broadway (2016). Mulaney is the co-executive producer, writer and director, as well as acting occasionally in Documentary Now! (2015-present).
