Christina Maria Aguilera, (/aegI’le@r@/; Spanish pronunciation: [agi’lera]), is an American actor, singer-songwriter and TV personality. She was born December 18th, 1980. She is known for her four-octave voice range and her ability to hold high notes for long periods of time, she has been referred to as the "Voice of a Generation". Aguilera was a major star on her debut album. It is said that she was responsible with helping to revive teenage pop in the latter part of the 1990s. Her work, which incorporates homophobia, feminism, and domestic violence, has garnered both controversy and praise. Her work is frequently cited by other artists for her influence. After appearing on TV shows, Aguilera signed with RCA Records in 1998. Her debut album spawned three Billboard Hot 100 number one singles "Genie in a Bottle" and "What a Girl Wants". She also won the Grammy Award as Best New Artist. Her first Spanish album, Mi Reflejo (2000), was released as a pop bubblegum record. It was a top contender on the Billboard Top Latin Albums charts for nineteen weeks.
