He began his education in Brambletye School, West Sussex. After graduating from Brambletye School in West Sussex, Cumberbatch was a student at the highly regarded Harrow School where he participated in a variety of Shakespearean plays. He made his acting debut in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the age of 12. Cumberbatch had a year of an in-between period before going to college in the UK, where he was a volunteer English teacher in a Tibetan monastery. After having graduated from the University of Manchester where he took a course in Drama as a second major, he then continued his studies at Yale. He continued to study at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
