Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976) is an American former football player who was a part of the National Football League (NFL) for 18 seasons. The nickname he received was "the Sheriff",he was a 14-year veteran playing for the Indianapolis Colts and four with the Denver Broncos.anning is considered to be one of the best quarterbacks of all time. A member of the Manning football dynasty, he is the second son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and older brother of the former NFL quarterback Eli Manning. He played in the NCAA football tournament at Tennessee, where he won the Maxwell, Davey O'Brien, and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards as a senior en route to victory in the 1997 SEC Championship.Manning was selected first overall during the 1998 NFL Draft by the Colts, where he served as their primary quarterback from 1998 to 2010. He was instrumental in transforming the struggling Colts team into regular playoff contenders, leading the team to eleven playoff seasons with eight division championships and three AFC Championship Games, two Super Bowl appearances, and one championship title during Super Bowl XLI, the franchise's first in over three decades, and the first since moving to the United States.
