John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (born 3 December 1948) is an English singer, songwriter, and television personality. Osbourne gained fame in the 1970s as the lead singer of the heavy metal group Black Sabbath, during which time he earned the nickname "Prince of Darkness".Osbourne was dismissed from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to alcohol and drug problems, but went on to enjoy a lucrative solo career. He recorded thirteen studio albums, the first seven albums of which were awarded multi-platinum status in the US. Osbourne has since been back with Black Sabbath on several occasions. He rejoined in 1997 and was a part of the band's final album, 13 (2013) in the year before they began a farewell tour which culminated by performing in February 2017 in their home town, Birmingham. His success and longevity earned him the informal name of "Godfather of Metal". He has been honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Birmingham Walk of Stars.
