Nathan Donald Diaz, an American mixed martial artist and professional fighter was born April 16, 1985. He is currently a free agent. Diaz is well-known for his participation in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), in which he fought for over 15 years after winning The Ultimate Fighter 5 on July 7, 2007. Diaz was an elite contender in the UFC's lightweight division. He competed for the UFC Lightweight Championship in December 2012 and remaining a top 5 ranked lightweight for most of his UFC time. After a win against Conor McGregor in March 2016, Diaz became a star. He was forced to leave the promotion after a victory against Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. In September 2022 his contract with UFC expired. Before joining the UFC, Diaz competed in World Extreme Cagefighting, Strikeforce, and Pancrase. Diaz has the third-highest number of UFC bonus awards, having 16 awards in total.Diaz is the brother to former Strikeforce, WEC, and IFC welterweight champion, Nick Diaz.The father of Melissa (nee Womble) and Robert Diaz, he was born of Mexican and Anglo roots and was raised in Stockton, California with his brother Nick and sister Nina.
