Kevin Jerome Gilyard, born February 5, 1986, more popularly known as Kevin Gates, an American artist, rapper and entrepreneur. He is currently signed to the Bread Winners'Association through a partnership with Atlantic Records. The first album of his studio, Islah was released in January 2016. It reached the top spot at 2 on the US Billboard 200 charts. Prior to Islah, Gates also released a number of mixtapes, including Stranger Than Fiction, By Any Means, and Luca Brasi 2, all of which peaked in the top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart.evin Jerome Gilyard was born on February 5, 1986, to his Puerto Rican mother and an African American father. After the move to New Orleans, Louisiana with his family, he moved to Baton Rouge. Gates was a troubled kid and was initially caught in 1999 after being in a stolen vehicle as the passenger. Although he lost touch with his father in the early years but he was able to reconnect with his father as a teenager. His father passed away due to complications from AIDS at the age of Gates was just 14 years old. When he was 17 years old, he briefly attended Baton Rouge Community College. Gates is of Moroccan and Puerto Rican descent.
