David Ortez

 David Amyrico Ortiz Arias, Dominican-American, former designated hitter (DH) and the first baseman in Major League Baseball, was born November 18, 1975. He was a major player for the Boston Red Sox in the American League (AL). After playing parts of six seasons with the Minnesota Twins with unremarkable results, Ortiz moved to the Red Sox, where he played a major role in ending the team's 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004, as well as winning the championship in 2007 and 2013. In addition, in 2013, he was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013. In the first five seasons of his time at the club the team, he hit an average of 41 home runs and 128 runs batted-in, leading the AL twice in the latter area and also setting the single-season record with 54 home runs in 2006 He was also in the top five spots of the AL's Most Valuable Player voting all five years.Used almost exclusively as a DH throughout his 14 seasons in the Red Sox, he was the tenth All-Star and a seven-time Silver Slugger winner, and was regarded as one of the greatest designated hitters all time.
