Selena Quinta

 Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation: [se'lena kinta'nija 'peres]; April 16, 1971 - - March 31 in 1995) was known by her mononym, Selena was an American Tejano singer. Her contributions to fashion and music have made her the "Queen" of Tejano music. Selena is among the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers of late 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her third on their 2020 list of "Greatest Latino Artists" based on Latin albums and Latin charts of music. The media dubbed her"the "Tejano Madonna" because of her attire selections. Also, she is among the most influential Latin artists of all time and has been credited with bringing the Tejano genre into the mainstream market.The youngest child of the Quintanilla family, she made her debut on the music scene as a member of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which also included her elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. Her reputation was constantly criticized during the 1980s and refused bookings at Texas venues for her performance of Tejano music, which is a largely male-dominated genre. But her popularity increased after she won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987, and was awarded nine consecutive times. She joined EMI Latin in 1989 and released her debut album, self-titled in the same year. During that time, her brother became her principal music producer and songwriter.
